Too many Michiganders are without homes or are one paycheck away from being homeless. We'll fight for rent caps and limit the amount of “student-only” housing allowed off campus. Apartments that charge $700 per bedroom are just not doable for far too many of Michigan's working class. We’ll work to incentivize landlords who keep their properties competitively priced for families, not just students.
We’ll fight to increase the minimum wage to a living wage. According to a study published on statista.com in June 2023, the average wage you’d need to afford a two-bedroom apartment in Michigan is roughly $21.50 per hour. The state minimum wage is $10.33/hour. If two parents work minimum wage jobs you still don’t have enough to rent a two-bedroom apartment in our state. That has to change.
Rural hospitals are closing at an alarming rate. We'll work to increase funding for these essential medical centers and incentivize doctors to continue working in these areas.
Additionally, we'll work to make it easier to access state funded healthcare, especially for families, pregnant women, and those who make less than $75,000/year.
Maintaining the delicate balance between upholding the Second Amendment and safeguarding public safety is a complex task. Jamie is steadfast in her commitment to work collaboratively with individuals from all walks of life and both sides of the aisle to do what it takes to keep guns out of our schools, concerts, nightclubs, and wherever else they don't belong. Together, we can create a society where Americans feel secure, free, and, most importantly, alive.
